Criminal justice review: delivering simple, speedy, summary justice
The purpose of the 'Delivering simple, speedy, summary justice' paper has been to focus on practical measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of courts-based delivery of criminal justice. The measures include radically improving the speed and effectiveness of the magistrates' courts, improving timeliness in the Crown Court and removing unnecessary procedures.
The Home Office published a paper on 'Rebalancing the criminal justice system' on 20 July 2006.

Judicial diversity research report: findings of a consultation with barristers, solicitors and judge
We commissioned an independent company to research why women and ethnic
minority barristers and solicitors were not applying for judicial appointment.
This report shows their findings. It covers current perceptions of the judiciary,
barriers and solutions. The research was done between October and December 2005
and the report completed in January 2006.

This document sets out our departmental response to the recommendations set out in the judicial diversity research report.

Researchers from Queen Mary, University of London were commissioned to investigate the link between assessment centres for judicial appointments and diversity. This report covers their findings. The report was completed in March 2006.

Effects of advertising in respect of compensation claims for personal injuries
A report commissioned by the
DCA and the Advertising Standards Authority as part of the government's work to tackle the perception of a compensation
culture. Its findings will help determine future policy in this area and inform advertising codes. This relates to the Compensation Bill.

This report presents the findings of a study commissioned by the DCA and carried out by Cardiff Law School
between April 2004 - February 2006. The aim was to investigate children's experiences of being separately
represented in private family law proceedings under the provisions of rule 9.5 of the Family Proceedings Rules 1991.
