Training

The Judicial Studies Board (JSB) organises the training of newly elected chairmen of Magistrates' Benches and induction and continuation training for Deputy District Judges (Magistrates' Courts) and District Judges (Magistrates' Courts).

It is also responsible for advising on, developing and monitoring the training of lay magistrates, which is delivered locally by Magistrates' Courts' Committees.

The Board's area of responsibility is for England and Wales. An essential element of the philosophy of the JSB is that the training of magistrates is under judicial control and directions. The training requirements of the different jurisdictions are the responsibility of six committees.
