Child care proceedings review: May 2006

A review of the child care proceedings system in England and Wales was commissioned in the fairer deal for legal aid paper in 2005. It has examined the child care proceedings system in England and Wales with two aims: to improve the system for children and families subject to proceedings; and to ensure that all resources in the system are used in the most timely, effective way. The review was published on 18 May 2006.

The review team commissioned Dr Julia Brophy to provide an evidence-based background to the work of the team in reviewing care proceedings, and to provide some information on the process and nature of applications for care orders. Her research report, Child care proceedings under the Children Act 1989, was published on 18 May 2006.

A final regulatory impact assessment (RIA) has been produced for the review and was also published on 18 May 2006
