A Specialist Mercantile Circuit Judge to sit at Birmingham Civil Justice Centre
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must have held a right of audience in the Crown Court or county courts for a period of ten years.
Those who have served for at least 3 years in the Offices listed in Schedule 10, part 31 (2) of the Courts and Legal
Services Act 1990, which includes the Office of District Judge, are also eligible to apply. Subject to the statutory eligibility
requirements and the statutory retirement age of 70, there are no age limits for these appointments. However, the Secretary of State
and Lord Chancellor will expect a reasonable period of service before retirement.
Nature of vacancies
These Chancery and Mercantile vacancies are full-time and will be renumerated at Senior Circuit Judge level. The Secretary of State and Lord Chancellor will
recommend for appointment the candidates who appear to him to be the best qualified regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, gender
identity, political affiliation, religion or belief, disability or other irrelevant factor.
Future Vacancies
Further vacancies may arise in the Chancery or Mercantile jurisdiction during the next financial year.
Consequently, suitable candidates may be invited to remain on a reserve list as a contingency measure without the need for a further competition.
