Public Appointments
The Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and Lord Chancellor makes appointments to a number of executive and advisory non-departmental public bodies. These include:
- the Legal Services Commission;
- various rule committees, which are involved in making rules of court; and
- the Advisory Committees on Justices of the Peace, which advise the Lord Chancellor on the appointment of JPs.

The Secretary of State is also responsible for the appointment of the Lieutenant Governors in the Crown Dependencies.
