Appointments

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) is responsible for running competitions for judicial appointments and selecting candidates for appointment to the judicial offices. It is an independent non-departmental public body.
The Lord Chancellor is responsible for making appointments, recommending those selected by the JAC to the Queen.

On 3 April 2006, the responsibility for recruitment and selection passed from the Lord Chancellor to the JAC.

The judicial appointments annual reports provide information about the judicial appointments process and statistics about the appointments made in the reporting period.
