Major Issues for 1999/2000

The table below summarises the major issues which will be addressed by the Advisory Board during the course of 1999 to 2000.

Information Meeting Pilot Models
The Board will continue to advise the Lord Chancellor on the development of the model which best meets the principles of the Family Law Act 1996.

The B oard will consider how its advice to the Lord Chancellor should take account of the Human Rights Act.

Provisions Regarding the welfare of children
The Board will advise the Lord Chancellor on the outcome of the Cardiff Research in to the operation of existing provisions.

Mediation Pilots
The Board will continue to advise on the issues emerging from the Mediation Pilot and will over see the implementation roll out.

Funding of Marriage Support and Research Services
The Board will consider Sir Graham Hart’s report to the Lord Chancellor on his review of marriage support funding.

Domestic Violence and Contact Orders
The Children Act Sub Committee is working towards the production of good practice guide lines in the light of the High Court’s judgement in re: M (Minor)(Contact:Violent Parent) which has given a helpful lead to indicating the kind of circumstances in which continuing contact with a non resident parent may not be in the best interest of the child.

Court Rules
The Board will provide its views on the Consultation Paper on court rules to be published by the Lord Chancellor’s Department in the summer of 1999.
