There are several different kinds of electoral pilots and they are:
All-postal ballot
The entire electorate, whether or not they have applied to vote by post, is issued with a postal vote. There are no traditional polling stations, although there may be assistance and delivery points (ADPs) for the completion and receipt of votes.
Electronic voting (e-voting)
The term applies here to all aspects of voting that involve some element of casting votes by electronic means. It may involve any, or a combination, of the following methods:
Electronic counting (e-counting)
Refers to systems that provide some form of automated count of votes that are cast using traditional methods, whether in a polling station or by some other remote form such as postal ballots.
Early voting
This refers to testing extended voting hours with traditional polling stations. This can involve extra polling hours on the day of the election or providing an opportunity to vote prior to the day of the election e.g. the weekend before.
Mobile voting
This refers to permitting electors to vote at a polling station location other than the one normally designated
