The Legal and Judicial Services Group Business Plan for 2006/07 sets out the direction for the Group for the year as well as information about Business Priorities and supporting milestones.


Executive summary

In Legal and Judicial Services Group (LJSG) we provide the framework to enable the legal and judicial professions to resolve disputes effectively. This means that we have a responsibility for ensuring we have a high quality judiciary, supported by fair terms and conditions, dealing with cases well prepared by a legal profession which is properly regulated and which provides a high quality public service, in accordance with well prepared laws and fair and clear legal procedures.

We have 6 main business priorities this year which will deliver:

  1. Delivering the Concordat between the Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice
  2. Improving access to legal services
  3. Providing timely, clear, accessible, efficient and effective legal services to the Department which meet customer and stakeholder needs; and ensuring that the Statute Law Database is maintained and developed to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date set of legislation in force which is accessible to all
  4. Modernising the relationships between the legislature, the executive and the judiciary by creating a Supreme Court for the United Kingdom
  5. Supporting DCA’s diverse staff, delivering excellence in equality and diversity and ensuring that DCA is compliant with equality legislation
  6. Enhancing the Group’s ability to manage its resources efficiently and effectively and to deliver its priorities
