Responsibilities

  • Lead HM Courts Service to ensure the agency effectively supports the delivery of DCA's objectives and PSAs
  • Establish the agency's national policies and business strategy
  • Establish framework for allocation of resources to local area, allocate resources within the agency's overall spending framework;
  • Establish risk management and corporate governance
  • Ensure HM Courts Service has delegations and authorities for effective delivery and continuous improvement
  • Ensure strong partnerships established with judiciary and magistracy and that their judicial independence is respected by the agency

Biography

Sir Ronald De Witt was appointed as chief executive of Her Majesty's Courts Service and executive member of the Department for Constitutional Affairs corporate board in March 2004.

From April 2002, he was chief executive of North West London Strategic Health Authority. Previous appointments include chief executive of King's College Hospital NHS Trust in London, chief executive of Royal Hull Hospital Trust, and chief executive of Leeds Health Authority. He was knighted in the Queen's birthday honours list in 2003 for services to nursing and the NHS; was appointed Honorary Fellow in Humanities (Lincolnshire University), and received a Doctorate Civil Law (Honoris Causa) from the University of East Anglia in recognition of his work with Education and Health.
