Our role
We are responsible for developing policy and practice for coroners, facilitating
their training and for leading a programme of coroner reform. We also deal
with enquiries from the general public about coroners and inquests.
Our responsibilities
Our key responsibilities, including our statutory responsibilities are:
- to lead the programme of coroner reform
- to develop current coroner policy and practice, including improved services
to bereaved people
- to service meetings with experienced coroners (the Coroners Advisory Group)
- to facilitate training for coroners
- to deal with public correspondence about coroners and their inquests
- to make changes to the boundaries of coroners' districts
- to provide directions to coroners to hold inquests in certain circumstances
- to set certain fees and allowances.
