[CP 17/05]

This consultation invited comments on the proposed closure of the Wetherby Courthouse, which HMCS had identified as surplus to requirement.

The summarised responses report outlines the conclusions reached on the options

Consultation begins on 16 August 2005
Consultation ends on 15 November 2005
Summary of responses published on 22 November 2006

Consultation paper

Her Majesty's Courts Service identified that Wetherby Courthouse had not been used for the listing of cases since July 2003 and may have been surplus to requirements. The cost of refurbishment was not considered justified and views were sought on the proposal that it be closed with effect from 1 January 2006.

Response paper

This report summarises the responses, the majority of which either positively supported closure or have no objections to the closure. Only one response expressed objection, and the points raised were carefully considered. The views expressed, together with the Building Survey report set out in the consulation paper, have been taken into account and the decision has been reached that the proper course is to close the courthouse on 31 December 2005.
