Merger of Local Justice Areas in Gwent

[CP 07/06]

This consultation paper outlines a proposal to merge the two benches in Gwent to allow greater flexibility for Magistrates sittings. No other aspect of service delivery will be affected and all the courthouses currently in use will continue to function.

Consultation begins on 2 May 2006
Consultation ends on 25 July 2006
Summary of responses published on 25 August 2006

Consultation paper

This consultation invited comments on the proposal by posing two questions; do you have any comments on the proposal to merge North West Gwent and South East Gwent Local Justice Areas?; are there any impacts in particular that should be taken into account? If so please give your reasons.

Summary of responses

A total of ten responses were received, six from local community councils, two from town councils, one from a serving magistrate and one from a member of Gwent Courts Board. Three expressly approved the proposal, none objected but one raised an (unfounded) concern and one posed a question.
