Administration of estates - Review of the statutory Legacy

7 June 2005

[CP 11/05]

This consultation paper reviews the adequacy of the amount of the statutory legacy (the amount of money that can be paid to a spouse from the assets of a person who dies without having made a valid will). The paper seeks views on whether the amount of the statutory legacy should be changed and, if so, to what. It also makes a provisional proposal for an increase.
