This consultation paper set out the Government's proposals for improving transparency and privacy in the family courts. It invited views and comments from all stakeholders including children and young people on making the family courts more open and accountable.
To encourage debate about the openness and privacy in family courts the Government launched two public online forums that complemented the consultation process. The adult family courts forum ran from 11 July till 30 October 2006 and the children and young people's forum ran from 1 September till 30 October 2006.

This report, published on 22 March 2007, summarises responses to the consultation on improving transparency and privacy in family courts. It also includes discussions of views expressed at stakeholder events and in the online discussion forum for adults, children and young people. The Government would like to thank all those who responded to the consultation.
The Government was keen to hear the views of children and young people as part of the consultation process. Through a number of events, over 200 children and young people gave their views on the consultation proposals. A young people's guide to the response paper has been produced with the help of the Office of the Children's Right Director.
