The draft Coroners Bill aims to modernise the coroner system so that it provides a more effective response to bereaved families and others who are touched by the service. This consultation invited comments on the draft Bill which was published in June 2006. Over 150 responses were received from key stakeholders and members of the public on a wide range of issues covered in the Bill.

The consultation period on the draft Coroners Bill was from 12 June to 8 September 2006. It invited comments on the draft Bill which was published on 12 June 2006. The invitation to comment on the proposals was on page seven of the draft Bill, it did not have a separate consultation paper.
This report summarises the responses received to the consultation on the range of proposals included in the draft Bill and indicates where we will be further consulting to develop proposals. Over 150 responses were received from key stakeholders and members of the public on a wide range of issues covered in the Bill. It was published on 27 February 2007.
As part of the consultation on the draft Bill, thirteen members of the public who had recently been in contact with the coroner service were invited by Opinion Leader Research (OLR) to sit on a panel on 9 November 2006 to consider the draft Bill in Parliament. This report presents the findings of the panel.
