Directorate of Judicial Offices for England and Wales (DJO)

The Judicial Office

The Judicial Office is based in the Royal Courts of Justice. It supports the Lord Chief Justice and senior judiciary in their new roles and responsibilities under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 and upholds the Concordat agreed between the Lord Chief Justice and the Lord Chancellor.

To provide this support the Judicial Office comprises three teams: Planning and Governance; Judicial HR Services; and Private Offices for the senior judiciary.

Judicial Communications Office (JCO)

The JCO was created in April 2005 to enhance public confidence in judicial office holders in England and Wales. It provides external and internal communications support.

The JCO supports all judges, both full- and part-time, together with tribunal members and magistrates in England and Wales.

Judicial Studies Board (JSB)

The JSB will continue to be responsible for the training of the judiciary. However, from April 2006, this independent office reports to the Lord Chief Justice within the management structure of the Directorate of Judicial Offices for England and Wales.
