Who is the Guide for?
This guide is addressed to any organisation which is considering making
an application to the Lord Chancellor under Schedule 4 to the Courts and
Legal Services Act 1990 (as substituted by Schedule 5 to the Access to Justice
Act 1999) for:
- designation as a body authorised to grant rights of audience or rights
to conduct litigation to any of its members, or
- approval of alterations to its qualification regulations or rules of
conduct. The aim of this guide is to explain to potential applicants:
- the statutory framework,
- the procedures they will have to follow, and
- the issues they will need to address in their application.
